Appliance removal & recycling in Buffalo, NY

The dead fridge in the garage, the washer that flooded the laundry room, the old water heater still sitting next to the new one. Heavy, sharp-edged, and usually down a flight of stairs. We take it from here.

Appliances are the worst thing in the house to move

They're dense, they have no good handholds, and the ones that need to go are usually the ones sitting in the least convenient spot in the building — the back of a stone basement, a detached garage, a third-floor apartment kitchen. Two people who do this every day will get a full-size refrigerator up a Buffalo basement staircase without taking a chunk out of your plaster. Two people who don't, generally won't.

We bring appliance dollies, straps and door protection, and we pad the walls and railings on the way out. Once the unit is on the truck it goes to a scrap metal recycler or an appliance recycler rather than a landfill, because almost all of it is steel and copper that's worth recovering.

Appliances we remove

  • Refrigerators, freezers and chest freezers
  • Washers, dryers and stacked laundry units
  • Stoves, ovens, ranges and cooktops
  • Dishwashers, microwaves and range hoods
  • Water heaters, both gas and electric
  • Furnaces, boilers and old radiators
  • Window and wall air conditioners
  • Dehumidifiers, humidifiers and space heaters
  • Loose scrap metal, pipe, ductwork and racking

Refrigerant, and why it matters

Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers contain refrigerant that has to be recovered by a certified technician before the unit can be scrapped — it isn't legal or responsible to just crush them. We route those appliances to recyclers set up to handle refrigerant recovery properly. It costs a little more to do it that way, and it's the reason a fridge sometimes prices slightly higher than a comparable-sized item that's just steel.

Disconnection: what we can and can't do

If an appliance is plugged into an outlet, we'll unplug it and go. If it's connected to a water line with a shutoff valve — a standard washer or fridge water line — we can usually close the valve and disconnect it. What we won't touch is a hard-plumbed gas line or a hardwired electrical connection. A gas stove, gas dryer, gas water heater or furnace needs a licensed plumber or HVAC tech to disconnect and cap it before we can safely move it. Get that scheduled first, or tell us when you call and we'll work out the sequence with you.

What appliance removal costs

Priced by the space the load takes up in the truck, quoted on site before we lift anything, free to have us look. A single item is a real job to us — there's no minimum truckload you have to fill to get us out there. Quality work at reasonable prices, and the number you agree to is the number you pay.

What we can't take on this job

We do not remove hazardous waste or chemicals — no paint, solvents, motor oil, gasoline, pesticides, pool chemicals, asbestos, propane tanks, or medical waste. That material is regulated and has to go through a licensed hazardous-waste channel. If you're not sure what something is, call and describe it and we'll point you to the right drop-off. We serve Buffalo, the Northtowns and southern Niagara County, which covers Buffalo, Kenmore, Tonawanda, Amherst, Williamsville, Clarence, Grand Island, Cheektowaga, North Tonawanda, Wheatfield, Pendleton and the Town of Niagara, plus the eastern and southern Erie County towns of Depew, Lancaster, Sloan, West Seneca, Elma, Lackawanna, Blasdell, Hamburg and Orchard Park. Questions

Straight answers before you call.

Do you pay me for scrap metal appliances?

No — and be careful with anyone who says they will. Scrap value on a household appliance rarely covers the labor to get it out of a basement and the fee to recycle it properly, especially anything with refrigerant. What the metal is worth is already factored into your price, which is part of why appliance jobs price the way they do.

Can you take a refrigerator with food still in it?

Yes, but empty it first if you can. A fridge that's been off for weeks is a genuinely unpleasant thing to carry through a hallway, and spoiled contents can leak on the way out. If it's been sitting and you'd rather not deal with it, tell us when you call so we can come prepared.

Will you get it out of the basement?

That's most of what we do. Buffalo basements tend to have steep, narrow stairs and low headroom, and it's the main reason people call rather than doing it themselves. We pad the walls and railings and take the door off its hinges if that's what it takes.

Do you disconnect gas appliances?

No. A gas line needs a licensed plumber or HVAC technician to disconnect and cap. Once that's done and the line is safe, we'll haul the unit away. Same goes for a hardwired electrical connection.

We probably take that too.
